Such an action to avoid collision must be taken in proper time. An OOW should know the minimum distance for taking avoiding action in every particular case of approaching vessels. The safe distance mainly depends of the relative bearing of an approaching vessel and her speed. In particular own vessel manoeuvrability should be taken into account. The safe minimum distance could be calculated in advance with an Excel calculation sheet. This paper presents a method for preparing a table of safe minimum distances to be used during a Navigational Watch. %@ 2083-6473
