The analysis of over 4,700 sea accidents that occurred between 2004 and 2021 reveals that the collisions and contacts are the most frequent initiating events for sea accidents. It is found that the collision and contact at the sea (as the primary event) can occur the next-step initiating event as well as the other primary events (e.g. fire, grounding, and damages) can occur the collision and contact (as the next-step initiating event). Moreover, the type and age of ships affected the collisions or contacts and the locations of sea accidents, as well as the consequences of these accidents, are analysed. }, doi = {10.12716/1001.18.01.06}, issn = {2083-6473}, publisher = {Gdynia Maritime University, Faculty of Navigation}, keywords = {Safety at Sea, Shipping, Maritime Transport, Maritime Safety, Collision Investigation, Marine Accidents Classification, Accident Statistics, Type of Accidents, Marine Casualties, Accident Analysis, Incident Investigation, Collision, Contact} }
